PROJECT
RBW is a manufacturer of designer lighting and I was hired as a Design and Development Consultant for their Allsew product--a modular and scalable pendant inspired by lightweight collapsible kites. The challenge was to create a large-scale pendant shade using fabric durable enough for a long lifespan, while also incorporating design elements inspired by kites and sailing.

THEME AND INSPIRATION
RBW's design team aimed to create a sail-like shade. They experimented with different sewing techniques and fabrics to achieve this look, as well as construction methods to ensure that heavier materials could still be durable and stable.
MORE DEVELOPMENT
I created small-scale mockups of the shades' corner for presentations and sales meetings. We used bendable fiberglass and metal to achieve the desired appearance.
CONSULTATION
As RBW had not made fabric shades at this size and construction before, I provided consultation on fabric qualities, construction techniques and factory sourcing options.
